Warrington is now a ‘very high risk’ local COVID alert level area (tier 3)
Find out more about what this means and the restrictions in place, visit our coronavirus webpages for more information.
Warrington’s baby gardens provide a special place for you and your family to remember your precious child.
There are areas for memorial tributes, and seated private places for contemplation.
The Sweet Dreams Baby Garden at Walton Lea Crematorium was dedicated on 2 May 2010 especially for families who had chosen cremation rather than burial. The garden has dedicated areas to strew, bury or inter ashes.
You, your family and friends may like to be there when the strewing, burial or interment takes place. You can also arrange for a ceremony to take place. Please contact us to arrange a day and time.
You can book an appointment for you, your family to witness the strewing, burial or interment.
The strewing area is the smaller of the two grassed areas in the middle of the garden. Remains are strewn from a special strewing vessel.
There is no cost for strewing. If you’d like to be there, it costs £46 for an appointment between Monday - Thursday, and £56 for an appointment on Saturday or Sunday.
‘Flag and plot’ interment of ashes take place in the Garden of Remembrance, which is the larger grassed area. A plot is excavated and remains are poured into the ground from a suitable vessel. This costs £47.
The teddy bear vaults are based on the idea of children’s building blocks. At the front of the vault is a granite tablet with an inscription and remains are placed behind the tablet in a wooden casket. We lease each vault for a period of 15 years, which can then be extended.
Authority block (Communal Sanctum) costs:
We can also work with you to create a unique design for the plaque, please contact us. The cost for this will depend on the design you choose.
There is also a Memory Wall, where you can place a memorial plaque, even if it isn’t possible to lay remains to rest. Each plaque costs £35.
If you’d like, you can add an entry to the Baby Book, which is part of the Book of Remembrance. You can choose what the epitaph will say, what date you would like it to be included, and then visit to view the tribute on the same day each year.
Please contact us if you would like a floral tube to be placed in the garden and we will provide this for you. Please don’t use your own, it can stop us from being able to maintain the area properly and safely.
You are welcome to place ornaments and toys, but please make sure they are on or to the side of the memorial. This helps us to carefully and safely maintain the area, and is considerate to all visitors to the garden.
Unfortunately ornaments and toys can’t be placed on lawned areas, but you may leave flowers.
Floral tributes are removed every week, on Wednesdays, unless you request otherwise. We leave them for a week longer on special occasions such as Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. They’re also left for longer over the Christmas period.
The Forget-Me-Not Baby Garden in Warrington Cemetery opened in 2000, and the Rose Bud Baby Garden in Fox Covert Cemetery in 2001.
Both have a bronze statue of a baby on an unfinished granite column, signifying a life begun but not yet completed.
You may like to have a 30 minute funeral service in our Warrington cemetery chapel or Walton Lea Crematorium free of charge if followed by burial in one our cemeteries.
Burials take place in the lawned areas, and you can choose to purchase have a memorial or headstone from a BRAMM (British Registration of Monumental Masons) registered stonemason of your choice. Burial and interment costs:
Baby Garden Inc. 1st Interment £305 (50 years Exclusive Right of Burial)
Interment in an existing grave in the Baby Garden £82
Baby Garden Inc. 1st Interment £457.50 (50 years Exclusive Right of Burial)

There may be other costs depending on the options you choose, for example the type of coffin. Speak to your funeral director or find out more about cemetery burials.
You can also buy the exclusive right of burial for the grave, which means you decide who can be buried there. The exclusive right lasts for 50 years and costs £305.
There is a dedicated area in both gardens where ashes may be strewn. You can arrange for a ceremony to take place, please contact us to arrange a day and time. Or we can carry out the strewing for you.
Each garden includes a raised memorial planter. Memorial plaques are available for a 20-year period, and you can buy one even if you don’t have a baby buried in the garden. Plaques cost £305.
You are welcome to place ornaments and toys, but please make sure they are on or to the side of the headstone, or on the gravel strip in front. This helps us to carefully and safely maintain the area, and is considerate to all visitors to the garden.
